About this role

Our clients business is going through a period of substantial growth. In order to achieve our aspirations, we require a Quantity Surveyor to join our established Projects division to deliver our growing order book.

As a QS within the projects team, you will lead, provide services on, and take responsibility for Quantity Surveying Commissions of small to medium size and complexity. Whilst ensuring that reasonable client objectives are met and that service is delivered in a timely manner and to the appropriate quality standards.

Full-time | Permanent | Nationwide (Based from Birmingham Office)

Negotiable salary based on experience

 

Key Accountabilities Responsibilities

  • Identifying and ensuring that the Team Leader/Head of Projects is aware of any quality, safety, health, and environment issues that become apparent.
  • To ensure that reasonable client objectives are met and that service is delivered to the appropriate quality standards.
  • Assessing and implementing QS standards for the project.
  • Monitoring and advising upon project finances.
  • Managing the flow of project information from within the project team, to ensure that deadlines are achieved or changes to timescales are clearly communicated.
  • To assist the QS Team Leader in delivering against their goals and objectives, including fee income targets, growth of client base, standards of service, etc on a wide range of projects of all sizes and dimensions.
  • Taking a proactive role within the project team, at all project stages.
  • To lead QS commissions on small to medium sized projects.


Specific QS duties will include some or all the following services: -

• Cost planning, including high level cost per m2, elemental cost per m2 and approx. quants. estimates. 

  • Attendance and participation at design team meetings.
  • Production of tender documentation, including Specifications / Schedules of Work, Bills of Quantities and Builder Quants.
  • Tender reporting, including value engineering.
  • Post-contract administration, including Valuations, Financial Statements and Final Accounts.
  • General correspondence and other ad hoc services as requested by the client.


Specific Cost Adviser duties will include some or all the following services: -

  • Attendance and participation at project initiation workshops.
  • Agreement of GMP & Risk Register costs, including audit of supply chain.
  • Implementation of Value Engineering, taking a lead role as necessary.
  • Preparation of VFM reports, including benchmarking against historical cost data.
  • Post-contract administration, including issuing contract documentation, valuations and responsibility for client specific scheme administration processes and reporting.
  • Attendance and participation at meetings, including chairing meetings when requested by client.


You will be required to report to the Senior QS Team on a regular basis on all live projects.

 

Marketing and business development / internal management, to include:

• Assisting in the production of bid documentation 

  • Ensuring that job database is kept up to date.
  • Identifying ways in which QS services, systems and processes can be improved and referring ideas to the Team Leader/Head of Projects.
  • Dealing with clients, consultants and contractors in a professional manner to enhance the reputation of Pennington Choices.
  • Ensuring prompt completion of time sheets.
  • Any other necessary duties, as requested by the Partners from time to time

 

Personal Specification 

Requirements 
  • Educated to relevant degree standard
  • Minimum of 3 years quantity surveying experience
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook, Project and Excel. 
  • Experience of leading QS commissions for small to medium sized construction projects
  • Understanding of the construction process, project development throughout the life cycle and project procedures 
  • Excellent knowledge of construction industry technical matters, such as the different procurement routes, contracts, value management, etc.
Desirable 
  • Chartered status (RICS/CIOB/APM) or working towards 
  • Experience of the Healthcare sector.
